Design
The design of the TenPoint Vapor RS470 is exceptional. It's high quality, durable and looks fantastic.
The aesthetic looks exactly how a premium compound crossbow should and makes the Vapor RS470 easy to hold.
TenPoint has completely redesigned the stock from previous models and have introduced a new Tec-X stock.
This new stock reduces the overall weight and size of the crossbow by half a pound.
The Vapor RS470 without any accessories weighs 6.5 pounds which is surprisingly light for such a high end crossbow.
Once all accessories are added the weight bumps up slightly to 8.5 pounds.
The materials it's made from whilst durable and surprisingly lightweight ensure that the shooter will not get tired quickly when aiming down sight.
This crossbow has a full length of 32-inches and an axle-to-axle width of 12-inches uncocked and 6.5-inches when cocked.
It has a Micro-Trac barrel which helps to reduce rail to string contact and therefore increases accuracy and means that the string lasts longer.
Performance
The TenPoint Vapor RS470 has a draw weight of 225 lbs and a velocity of 470 FPS.
If its power you're looking for then look no further, the Vapor RS470 certainly doesn't disappoint.
Taking this crossbow down to our range was incredibly fun, and it was great to witness first hand just how powerful the Vapor RS470 is.
After some quick adjustments to the scope we we're able to shoot some impressive sub 3-inch groupings at our target.
TenPoint delivers a total of 12 arrows with the Vapor RS470.
This includes 6 Lighted Evo-X CenterPunch premium carbon arrows as well as 6 Evo-X CenterPunch premium carbon arrows.
These arrows are great and fly straight when shooting the Vapor RS470.
The speed at which the this crossbow sends these arrows down range is simply mind boggling.
It's easy to see why this would be an exceptional crossbow for hunting game.
The RS470 features RX-7 cams which rotate an an industry leading 404 degrees during the draw cycle.
These cams increase the amount of energy that is stored in the system and provides a strong boost upon launch which TenPoint calls Sling-Shot technology.
The RS470 also has a 17-inch power stroke which is made possible by the bow's reverse draw configuration that points the dual flex limbs away from the shooter.
This is different from a traditional bow and places the cams and string at the far end of the rail.
The result is that the string can be drawn a greater distance from its resting position to the trigger house, thereby increasing the amount of flex in the bow limbs as well as the amount of energy stored in the process.
TenPoint also added a new 20-inch MICRO-TRAC aluminium flight rail that is fluted to reduce the surface area by 50% when compared to a standard flight rail.
Trigger
One of our favourite features of the Vapor RS470 is the new S1 trigger. It's a two stage trigger that has a zero-creep 3.5 lbs pull.
Two stage triggers allow the shooter to pull the trigger slightly until all of the slack has been removed, then additional force is required to send the bolt charging down the rail towards the target.
It's satisfying to use and feels crisp when shooting this crossbow. The trigger has a stainless steel lock latch that automatically catches the trigger box and locks it in place when fully drawn.
When this happens you'll hear an audible click which signals to the shooter that the bow is fully drawn and ensures the trigger box is in the exact same position after consecutive shots.
TenPoint states that this feature results in 48 percent greater accuracy when compared to non-locking trigger boxes.
Not only that, but this feature also increases safety as it ensures that the trigger box cannot accidentally disengage.
Cocking
As the TenPoint Vapor RS470 is designed as a hunting crossbow it's important for cocking to be safe, swift and silent.
The new ACUslide features an Auto-Brake-Gear-System which delivers on all of the above points.
The brake system prevents dry firing and means that the shooter can remove their hand at any point whilst cocking or decocking and the handle will not run away from you.
The handle is 5 inches but can be extended to roughly 7.5 inches to give the shooter more leverage.
The trigger box in the ACUslide which locks into the same place each and every time the crossbow is shot.
This is a feature that has been highly sought after by crossbow enthusiasts and is one that Ravin have missed with the release of the Ravin R29X crossbow.
Optics
The TenPoint Vapor RS470 features an EVO-X Marksman scope that compliments this crossbow very well.
It has a reticle with dead-on aiming points for between 20-80 yards, in 10-yard increments.
You'll be glad to know that the scope comes pre-installed and is already sighted in and standard from the factory.
We did find that when shooting the crossbow we needed to make some small adjustments, as likely in transit the scope got a little bit off.
However, this took a matter of minutes to fix and as a result we found we we're shooting accurately very quickly.
The scope also has the option to light up which is perfect for shooting in low light situations.
There are options for both red and green illuminations and there are five brightness settings for every low light situation.
As a whole we we're very impressed with the this scope and can see why it is the perfect addition to this hunting crossbow.
