TenPoint Havoc RS440 Review - Tactical Archery - Tactical Archery UK

The TenPoint Havoc RS440 hit the market back in 2020 and revolutionised the way crossbow hunters take to the field.

Crossbow technology is advancing at a rapid rate and TenPoint are paving the way with their Havoc RS440.

This crossbow is one of the most comfortable, compact and powerful crossbows we have ever used.

Today, we're going to take a closer look at what TenPoint has to offer in our TenPoint Havoc RS440 Review to give our honest, unbiased opinion on this crossbow.

Let's get into it...

Specifications

TenPoint has done an excellent job at packing the Havoc RS440 crossbow with some impressive specifications.

Below is the full spec for the TenPoint Havoc RS440:

  • Length – 26.5″
  • Axle-to-Axle Width – 7.5″ (cocked)
  • Weight – 7.5lbs.
  • Speed – 440fps / 172 FP KE
  • Power Stroke – 13.5″
  • Draw Style – Reverse-Draw
  • Safe De-Cocking – ACUslide

Design

Firstly, the TenPoint Havoc RS440 is surprisingly compact at just 26.5-inches in length and 12.3-inches in width when uncocked and 7.5-inches when cocked.

It's made from strong, premium materials that gives this crossbow high-quality feel when in your hands.

That said, due to these materials being heavy duty, the Havoc RS440 is certainly not the lightest crossbow on the market.

When stripped back without any accessories added, this crossbow weighs 7.5 pounds (3.4kg), and after adding the scope it bumps the weight up to just over 10 pounds (4.5kg).

The compact and sturdy design makes for a feeling of stability, which not only helps with accuracy but adds to the durability of the RS440.

Performance

One of the most enjoyable parts of any crossbow review is taking it down to the range to test out it's performance.

The TenPoint Havoc RS440 comes with six 16-inch EVO-X Centerpunch premium carbon arrows with 100-grain practice points.

Each arrows weighs in at 400 grains (25.9g) and will travel at speeds of up to 440 FPS out of this crossbow.

The Havoc RS440 also boasts the S1 trigger. It's a 2-stage trigger that breaks at 3.5 pounds. It's super smooth and is undoubtedly one of the best triggers on the market.

There are two options for optics on the RS440, but we'll get to that shortly.

We used the EVO-X Marksman Elite scope to test out the performance of this crossbow, and it didn't disappoint.

We set up a target at 100 yards away, and very quickly after some short adjustments we managed to get a very tight grouping of 2-inches.

Accuracy certainly isn't a problem with the RS440, likely due to the stability and 440 FPS of power that it generates.

As mentioned earlier this isn't a lightweight crossbow, so to get the most out of it, consider using a mount, especially whilst hunting.

After shooting the Havoc RS440 I could really see why this would be a huntsmans best friend.

It's compact, accurate and incredibly powerful.

It comes equipped with the ACUslide cocking and de-cocking device. Whilst this is not upgraded from last year, it's still one of the best crank cocking devices available.

The ACUslide crank reduces the force required to cock this crossbow to 12-pounds, making it an effortless process that anybody is capable of doing.

As you would expect with any hunting crossbow, the cocking process is silent and therefore will not disturb game.

The arrows are highly accurate, fly straight and make for an excellent shooting experience.

Whilst it's not quite as powerful as say the Ravin R500, it's still a serious amount of power that is more than enough for most applications.

Optics

The TenPoint Havoc RS440 is available with two different scope; The Garmin XERO scope and the EVO-X Marksman Elite Scope.

Garmin XERO Scope

TenPoint has partnered with Garmin to create the first crossbow that comes with a built-in range finding scope.

At present, it's the most advanced, high-tech scope that is available with a crossbow, but it comes at a price.

Garmin XERO Scope

This scope is specifically designed for crossbows with a maximum power of 650 feet per second and has a range of 250 yards.

The scope has an easy to use initial setup guide which will walk you through the process of making sure that this scope is dead-center at a 20 yard distance.

EVO-X Marksman Elite Scope

If you don't want to put a hole in your wallet and are not fussed about all of the bells and whistles that come with the Garmin XERO scope, then the EVO-X Marksman scope is for you.

This scope is an upgrade from the previous EVO-X Marksman scope, whilst its not as high tech as the Garmin, it still comes with some impressive features and ensures that the Havoc RS440 is as accurate as it can get.

This is a variable scope that is designed for crossbows with speeds of up to 500 FPS and has a range of 100 yards.

The scope features a total of 9 aiming points ranging from 20 - 100 yards, each with 10 yard increments.

You'll be glad to know that TenPoint pre-sight the EVO-X Marksman Elite scope before it leaves the factory, but you may find that during transport is may lose some accuracy.

It's always a good idea to double check this when the crossbow arrives before taking it out to hunt.

Pros & Cons

Whilst the TenPoint Havoc RS440 is an impressive crossbow, it's not without its drawbacks.

This crossbow is certainly not for everyone, and in my experience with the bow I believe it's for a niche audience of hunters.

Conclusion

So what do we think of the TenPoint Havoc RS440 crossbow?

Well, it's a phenomenal bit of kit, especially for those that are looking for a hunting crossbow.

Its compact, durable and has a high-quality feel when in your hand, so it should for its hefty price tag!

That said, I do believe the value for money from the Havoc RS440 is exceptional.

It's a well-rounded crossbow that is highly accurate, powerful and has the option for the most high-tech scope in the game (providing your willing to pay for it).

As a whole, the Havoc RS440 is one of the best crossbows I have ever reviewed, and it's undoubtedly a Tactical Archery favourite.
