Design

One of the most impressive aspects of the Barnett Hypertac 420 has to be its design.

It's incredibly well put together and is made from high quality, durable materials that gives it a premium feel when holding it in your hands.

The crossbow is ultra compact with a full length of 35.9 inches and an axle-to-axle width of 18.75 inches uncocked and 9.18 inches when cocked.

The Hypertac 420 has an aesthetically pleasing design that lightweight and very well balanced.

It has an adjustable buttstock which enables you to adjust the length of the pull for a custom fit.

There is also a handy built-in foregrip which allows for extra accuracy and a more comfortable hold when shooting this crossbow.

As most of Barnett crossbows do, the Hypertac 420 also features three Picatinny rails, allowing you to add customisations such as flashlights, custom quivers etc.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the Hypertac 420 boasts and impressive 15.5-inch power stroke and 215 poundage, which allows this crossbow to shoot bolts at up to 420 FPS.

That said, this largely depends on the bolts you use, but Barnett speed-rates the Hypertac 420 using 380-grain arrow.

We recommend using Barnett 22" HyperFlight arrows for the best experience whilst using this crossbow.

They fly straight, fast and are accurate. They also have a diameter of .204 and weigh 330 grain.

The power that comes from this crossbow is exceptional for such a compact crossbow, and it's also surprisingly accurate too.

It's perfectly suited to longer range shooting at around 70 yards, and after some small adjustments whilst shooting this crossbow we managed to consistently shoot 2-inch groupings at this distance..

The Halo scope that is included with this crossbow is amazing. It's easy to zero in and highly accurate.

After shooting at 60 yards, we thought to would push the limits and decided to set up a target 100 yards away.

Even at 100 yards this crossbow performed incredibly well, and bolts would crunch through the target with serious power.

Trigger

Shooting this crossbow at the range was made even more fun by the impressive trigger technology that the Hypertac 420 features.

It is built with a 3-pound TriggerTech system which makes shooting this crossbow amazing.

The trigger system contains frictionless release technology and a metal injection molded (MIM) trigger.

This trigger system is among the best in the crossbow market right now. It has a short pull distance which allows the shooter to be incredibly accurate.

Cocking

The Barnett Hypertac 420 has a draw weight of 200lbs, but when using the included rope cocking sled this reduce to 100lbs.

There is also the option for a crank cocking device (CCD) which further reduces the draw weight to 7lbs, making it incredibly easy for anyone to cock this crossbow.

Most people will be able to cock the Hypertac 420 using just the cocking rope, but if you are looking for an easier option or are on the weaker side, then using the crank device will be a better option for you.

Optics

Barnett has equipped the Hypertac 420 with a 1.5 - 5.32mm Halo scope, the perfect optic scope for shooting at longer distances.

It features a speed selector to match any crossbow that shoots between 300 - 425 FPS.

The scope provides aim points at exact 10-yards intervals from 20 up to 70 yards.Barnett hypertac 420 review

This scope is even illuminated for shooting in low light conditions.

You can choose between a red or green reticle, with simple push-button on/off operation and illumination intensity control.

Set Up

You'll be glad to know that getting the Hypertac 420 up and running is incredibly easy.

Simply attach the scope to the rail, then proceed to attach the limbs and you're good to go.

The whole set up of this crossbow takes a matter of minutes.

When it comes to zeroing in the scope, this is also quick and easy and should take no longer than a few minutes.

Within 15 minutes of getting my hands on this crossbow I was already shooting sub 2-inch groupings.
